Drunk Driving Penalties in Maryland

If you are pulled over and found to be driving while intoxicated (DWI), then you could be arrested and face serious penalties upon conviction. In order to be charged with DWI, it must be proven that your blood alcohol content (BAC) was 0.08% or higher at the time of your arrest.

The penalties for conviction of this crime can include up to $1,000 in fines for a first conviction and $2,000 for a second offense. In addition, you will accumulate 12 points against your record for a conviction, thus resulting in immediate revocation of your driver's license.

DUI is a less-serious offense and requires that you be driving with a BAC between 0.04% and 0.07%. The penalties for conviction include eight points against your record, up to $500 in fines, and up to 60 days in jail for a first offense.
